Modern Jordan

The population of Amman is estimated to be four million; and the population of Jordan is 9.5 million including 2.9 million nonJordanian "guests," mostly Syrians.  The increases are huge since the onset of Arab Spring.  The government of Jordan has welcomed wealthy and/or educated immigrants from Syria and other middle eastern countries.  As a result, there is a huge amount of new home construction in Amman, making urban sprawl a way of life.

Most apartment buildings are four or five stories tall, but recently a few skyscrapers have been built.  Notice that the one shown on the right below is under construction.

Jordanian King Abdullah is admired and loved by the people of Jordan. Large photos of him are posted in many placed.  This one is on a wall in the Citadel high above the town.
